CERA's Director

David Le Couteur FRACP, PhD, Grad Cert Ed commenced as Director of CERA in January 2001. He also holds the position of Professor of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Sydney and, Senior Staff Specialist in Geriatric Medicine at Concord Repatriation General Hospital.

Professor Le Couteur’s research interests include the effects of ageing on the liver and drug metabolism, the effects of ageing on susceptibility to neurological diseases and gerontological education. He is currently researching changes in the liver as we grow older and why these make us more susceptible to disease. He supervises a number of post-graduate research students with backgrounds in medicine, science and nursing and has published widely in the fields of geriatric medicine and pharmacology.
