Hip Fractures and Prevention

The incidence of hip fractures increasing and is projected for further increase due to the population growth in the oldest age groups. Hip (and other) fractures are a common 'geriatric syndrome' and represent a high cost to both the individual and the community. Reducing their incidence presents researchers with complex challenges in identifying causes and then, making recommendations on prevention techniques.

Professor Cumming has contributed to several studies involving falls and hip fractures and randomized trials of external hip protectors. Details of this work with links to external sources for further information follows:
